Our field partners’ comments

In the past we have successfully partnered with individuals, NGOs, museums and educational bodies to deliver field assessments and reports. Here is some of the feedback we have received following some of our more recent collaborations.

“Wonderful BTO”

Jerry C. Garteh - Field Biologist

“My name is Jerry C. Garteh a Liberian field Biologist specializing in fauna of West Africa. I hold a Master of Science degree in Biodiversity Conservation from Njala University in Sierra Leone and Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Liberia.

In 2014 I was hired by BTO commercial division (now Combined Ecology) to work on a project in Sierra Leone, West Africa. My role on the project was as a small mammals consultant which provided me with wonderful experience and key challenges.

In-country partners are important for international organization involved in field work or Biological study for actual information on the terrain for realistic field planning and representation. It is very promising that Combined Ecology’s business model recognizes this.”

“I am particularly happy and impressed with Combined Ecology’s appreciation of local expertise and the willingness to work with it.”

Dr. Augustus Asamoah, Forestry Management & Conservation Specialist

My first contact with the BTO commercial division (now Combined Ecology) was in 2009 at the start of the BTO/RSPB/GWS collaboration research work on migrant birds research in Ghana and Burkina Faso. I played a key role in the set up and implementation of the project activities.

More recently in October 2014, I have been part of the Combined Ecology team that carried out a preliminary ornithological and habitat assessment for the proposed wind farm project in West Africa. In both instances, it was a remarkable experience working with the Combined Ecology team.

For me, I relished the opportunity to be a team member in the activities of a highly reputable organization such as Combined Ecology. I am particularly happy and impressed with Combined Ecology’s appreciation of local expertise and the willingness to work with it.

“We will be glad to work with Combined Ecology again.”

Dr. Jan Decher; Curator - Section of Mammals; Zoologisches Forschungsmuseum A. Koenig (ZFMK)

"In March 2014 the Zoological Research Museum A. Koenig (ZFMK) in Bonn, Germany was approached by Combined Ecology to supply expertise for a rapid assessment of small mammals and fishes in central Sierra Leone.

On 17 May 2014 our team of two experts arrived in Freetown to join their local counterparts and field assistants. Despite numerous unexpected logistic challenges in the field and the added complication of having to pull our team from the field three days early due to the worsening Ebola epidemic, we always felt cared-for and informed by the Combined Ecology office staff and their field team coordinator.

Communication was excellent. Combined Ecology was very responsive to questions or concerns from the field team and ready to find constructive solutions for unexpected problems. Combined Ecology also provided excellent guidance through the report writing and editing process. We will be glad to work with Combined Ecology again.”
